We crate trained a puppy 13 years ago and did everything wrong. We are determined to get it right this time around with our new 9-week-old Boston Terrier and after a week of yelping & crying ALL NIGHT LONG (by the puppy, my husband AND myself!) I was desperate. My four human babies, including a set of twins, were easier to sleep train! I am so glad I found this book and have now had three successful nights using the "light-sleeper" method. The puppy has completely slept through the night without even needing to go potty! My husband has been out of town for five days and is going to be shocked at the difference in our little Gidget's sleeping habits when he gets home!!The only reason I didn't give this book five stars is because I wish it had included some additional non-sleep related crate training tips. However, It is an easy 30-45 minute read and has really good ideas to try for your little sleep monster. Good luck!!

Very helpful, simple and to the point! After a few nights of the "alarm clock method" we used a blend of the first two methods. "Alarm clock" for the first half of the night and then "light sleeper" for the second half. In just under a week we were using "light sleeper" only. Thankfully our pup liked his crate and he was sleeping all night after about week or two at 10 weeks of age. This book gives clear understanding and directions to give one confidence during puppy sleep training.
Getting ready to bring our little one home. I have been doing a lot of reading and 5is book provides very sound, logical advise.
Thank you for this book. As a first time puppy owner who wasn't prepared, it really got us on track right away and in just one day, we were on a schedule that worked! I recommend this light read to anyone who needs help right away and doesn't have much time to prepare.
I've had puppies before and potty training them always took me for ever during the night and during the day. I recently got a new puppy and this book literally opened my eyes of what I was doing wrong and it makes so much sense of why it took me forever to get my dogs potty trained in the day and night when they were puppies. I am going to try the alarm method and I can already see that it will work. If you are a new parent of a fur baby this is the book!!!!
If I could give this more then 5 stars I would! Clear and concise advice. I have been struggling for a month to get my pup to sleep through the night. I read this cover to cover in less then hour, implemented one of the methods and also learned what I was doing wrong. I now have my pup on a set schedule so everyone is happy!! Highly recommend!
I transitioned my puppy from paper training to crate training, so I bought this book to help ease the process. Luckily for me it went pretty fast, since my pup was able to sleep through the night already. I did get up in the middle of the night when he started spending the night in his crate to make sure he didn't have any accidents, but I was able to move the intervals of time up quite quickly. This book is a great resource!
I read this just in time! It had been 14 years since our last puppy, and I'd forgotten so much. This book helped refresh my old memories and taught me some new tools. First night, puppy slept until for 6 hours, went out to potty, went straight back to sleep for the rest of the night. (Puppy is 8.5 weeks old.) I like how the author gives options/variations -- it really helped! Maybe the best tip for us was to keep her awake and active in the evening so she'll be tired for bedtime. Nice little book!
